looking for mushrooms
acrylic on canvas
installation variable, works ranging from 3 x 4" to 12 x 12"

looking for mushrooms started on trails through the woods at the Ox-Bow School of Art in Saugatuck, Michigan. It then expanded to looking for mushrooms everywhere I went at the time. A curiosity around knowing the mushrooms that grew in the areas I spent time in was the source for this work. looking for mushrooms was also grounded in experimentation between physical pigments, water, and mushrooms' fruiting bodies. It was a time for me to get acquainted with each mushroom I came across - not only its given names and the environment each is a part of, but also the way they felt as I worked with them to create a visual record similar to a spore print.
