looking for mushrooms
acrylic on canvas
installation variable, works ranging from 3x4" to 12 x 12"
2016

looking for mushrooms started on trails through the woods at the Ox-Bow School of Art in Saugatuck, Michigan. It then expanded to looking for mushrooms everywhere I went at the time. It is a study that started with a curiosity around mushrooms I was seeing.

This work was also grounded in experimentation between physical acrylic pigments, water, and mushroom fruiting bodies. It was a time for me to get acquainted with each mushroom I came across - not only its given names and the environment each is a part of, but also the way they felt as I worked with them to create a record similar to a spore print.
