"kind in the right stomach" is an exhibition that followed a week-long residency with artist Hannah Songer and with the artist-run Project 1612 in Morton, IL in the late summer of 2023. The title of the exhibition was chosen from "Eggs" by Gertrude Stein in Tender Buttons.
This series of small, hand-held paintings is a study of insects who are blending in to their surroundings in the garden during the residency. The pigments used in this series are a carbon black from bonfires, an iron oxide from a fragmenting railroad, a calcium carbonate with heme from chicken's eggshells, a verdigris from a collection of pennies. The paintings live on a paper surface made from scrap fabric.
This residency was funded by Big Picture Peoria
